QUALITY STUFF FOR ALL
YOU "REAL HIP HOP" FANATICS!
You rarely get to hear quality hip hop these days. You have to do some deep internet, XM radio or college radio station searching to find the good hip hop artists out there who seem to be hidden from the public.
Such is the case with Fresno, California's, The Argyle Pimps (formerly known as Neighborhood Watch), who have been tickling the micros since the late 90's.
When I ask locals, "have you heard of Neighborhood Watch?," the answer I get is "no," or the even more sarcastic "nope"!
With lyrical talent that definitely surpasses most what you hear on mainstream radio, I'm really surprised these guys haven't gotten a record deal yet!
These should be the guys making money for actually exemplifying the word DOPE (for all you non hip hop slangers, this word means GOOD...or VERY GOOD rather) than hollering in a mic--talking rhetorical nonsense.
O.K. Enough about "booty" vs. "dope" hip hop. Let me just introduce you to Nomadic and Boney Beezly of THE ARGYLE PIMPS!
Who is currently in Neighborhood Watch?
Nomadic: Right now it's just myself and Boney.
**There used to be 6 members in the group
but do to a continual streak of lagging by certain
members, they all eventually fell off to the point
of no return. Basically, they went on and Boney & Nomadic
remained**
Me and Boney have similar ideas and a similar sense of humor.
No egos. We just like to be funny and talk about everyday stuff.
Aren't you working on a new album called Argyle Pimpin'?
Nomadic: We actually have 14 songs recorded with 5 or 6
ready...waiting to be remixed.
We have a song were we talk about working at an old folks home.
Actually, our song "Argyle Pimpin' " is about being rich and living
in the days of Marilyn Monroe.
And "Handsome," is about an unattractive on the outside, nice on the
inside guy...fruity/realistic stuff.
FUNNY! It's FUNNY! I'm sick of rappers trying to be so serious
all the time talking about this or that girl or how they're the best rapper.
I'm not saying that we're actually doing anything "new", we're just doing
something different.
When did you join Neighborhood Watch Boney?
Boney: 2002 when the sky was blue ...ooooh ooooh ooooh.
How would you describe Nomadic?
The man is a tortured yet prolific mixture of skeptic and cleric,
He is ripe with riveting contradictions and spell-binding charisma...Wait, sorry...
Umm... I think he's dope? His voice is crispy like bacon-bits ...and his breath
smells like bacon-bits-perhaps there's a connection?
What do you see in the future for Neighborhood Watch?
I have very little expectations for it...but I would like for lots of
people to hear it somehow...maybe college radio will be helpful. In the future
I would like for us to all own sea-foam green Vespa's and saucy Shure brand
retro style microphones.
