Deejay Deepcee (formerly of L.A. then Fresno now residing in Oakland) spins some of the best in SOULFUL house music.
Soulful house, you ask?
Yep. The type of house with beats and basslines that fill up your chest as you approach the dancefloor at a REAL club.
The kind of house that is backed by Patti Labelle and Chaka Kahn-type vocals.
The communal type of house that has everyone on the dancefloor freestyle and break dancing in dance circles instead of looking for someone to fight.
I like to call this type of house music, gospel house or basically...soulful house.
It's the kind of dance music that influenced me to buy a 'beginning d.j.' turntable set from the Guitar Center in 1998, when I attempted mixing Gil Scott-Heron's 70's r&b hit"The Bottle" with some new house track of that year.
Good choice of mixes, but I also found out that not everyone can be a d.j.!
Deepcee has been spinning soulful house since 1999 and with every CD, he's gotten better and better.
He embraces tribal rhythms, house, and French house beats with soulful vocals including remixes of some of today's r&b and even alternative rock hits.
If there is a pop song you can't stand, you'll probably like it alot more after hearing DeepCee's mixes.
Could he be absorbing the love of real house music from the Bay Area club scene?
This and the fact that he's been house dancing/breaking and throwing underground parties since the 90's spreading his talents to many along with his crew, Gruvhome.
In 1999, the love of music had influenced DeepCee to learn how to spin himself and he's been spinning the rhythms ever since.
